5. Repair irregularities with an appropriate patching or joint compound. Prime patches.
6. Glossy or highly glossy surfaces must be deglossed with a deglosser.
7. Prime bare metal with a quality metal primer. Prime water stained or other discolored areas with the appropriate stain blocking primer.
8. We recommend the use of Back to Nature Lead Clean for use at steps 4 and 6.
CAUTION: Some preparation procedures such as sanding or scraping may create toxic dust and/or hazardous waste. Inhalation (breathing) or ingestion (eating) of lead may cause death or serious illness. Wear protective clothing and OSHA approved respirator during these procedures. Cover floor or ground with disposable materials. Extreme caution should be used to prevent lead chips and dust from entering the environment. Dispose of all waste materials in accordance with all existing Local, State, and Federal Requirements.
B. Application:
1. Extra-Coat: When finished, Extra-Coat is applied to the surface at a thickness of 3 mils dry resulting in coverage of approximately 220 sq. ft. per gallon. Apply in one coat of 7-7.5 mils wet.
2. Back to Nature Extra-Coat can be rolled, brushed, or sprayed onto the surface.
a) Rolled or Brushed - Use short or medium nap roller on smooth surfaces and longer nap on rough or textured surfaces. Use a professional quality nylon or polyester brush of appropriate size.
b) Airless Spray - Use at least a 3/4 or 1 GPM piston sprayer with rev. tip .021 -.023, 1/4" or 3/8" hose.
3. Clean equipment promptly after use with soap and water.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS: Safety goggles are recommended for eye protection. Wear neoprene gloves to minimize skin contact. Maintain adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas. Use only with adequate ventilation. Open windows and doors and use other means to ensure fresh air entry during application and drying. If you experience eye watering, headache, or dizziness, increase fresh air or wear respiratory protection. NIOSH/MSHA TC23C or equivalent or leave the area. Avoid contact with eyes or skin. Close container after each use. First Aid: In case of eye contact, flush immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention; for skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE: BTN Extra-Coat cannot prevent exposure to the encapsulated lead-based paint if surface film is damaged , broken or abraded. Routine inspections for holes, cracks, dents, bubbles, peeling or any other defect, including water damage is important to maintain maximum efficiency of this coating. Damaged surfaces should be repaired and re-encapsulated immediately to prevent exposure to the lead hazard.
